About The Census The Census.
The Birmingham Black Business Census was born out of a need—a need to address the gaps in understanding, visibility, and support for Black-owned businesses in OUR city. For too long, we’ve operated without a clear picture of where these businesses are, what industries they represent, or what they truly need to thrive. As a result, opportunities for growth, support, and collaboration have been missed.
This Census is our commitment to change. It’s a call to action for all of us to stand together and take responsibility for shaping a more equitable future. By gathering this data, we aren’t just counting businesses—we’re creating a foundation for long-lasting progress, where every Black entrepreneur in Birmingham has the resources and opportunities to succeed.
The challenges we face are real, but so is our determination. This Census is the first step in making sure Black businesses are not just seen but valued, heard, and supported in ways that matter.
By coming together as a community, we’re building the roadmap that will guide us toward a future where Black businesses flourish—not just for their benefit, but for the prosperity of all of Birmingham.
